Anthony Collins Solicitors is supporting Resolution’s Good Divorce Week commencing on 29 November. But what is Resolution, what’s its purpose and what is a Good Divorce Week?
Resolution is a membership organisation of around 6,500 family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales. It was formed in 1982 by a group of family solicitors who were concerned about what they saw as the aggressive and confrontational approach taken in many family cases and wanted to adopt a more constructive approach to their cases, acknowledging that family works differently to other types of litigation.
Initially known as the Solicitors Family Law Association, Resolution has grown into a nationally recognised and respected group who offer training, guides to good practice and specialist qualifications to a wide range of professionals and academics all committed to a constructive approach to resolving family issues. Resolution members all follow a Code of Practice that promotes a constructive approach to resolving family issues and considers the needs of the whole family.
Alongside helping its members, Resolution also seeks to raise awareness of family issues on a national level on the benefits of adopting constructive and non-confrontational approaches to family disputes. One recent high-profile campaign successfully undertaken by Resolution was for a change in the law to allow for ‘no fault’ divorce. The campaign resulted in a change in the law, and it’s expected that the first no-fault divorce will be issued in the spring of 2022.
Good Divorce Week is a big part of Resolution’s commitment to campaigning for change. Good Divorce Week highlights ways in which separating and divorcing couples can reach agreements without unnecessary acrimony.
This year’s Good Divorce Week is hoping to kickstart a national conversation about how parents can embrace a child-focussed approach to separation. As part of the launch, Resolution has created a free guide to separating couples, which contains information, advice, and support. A link to the guide can be found here.
Anthony Collins Solicitors fully support the work of Resolution and are proud to support Good Divorce Week.
