Anthony Collins statement following Legal Aid Agency data breach

On 19 May 2025, the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) has confirmed a cyber-attack on its digital systems, which has resulted in a significant data breach. The breach affects individuals who have submitted legal aid applications since 2010. Anthony Collins is issuing this information to support individuals and our clients who are affected.

This data breach solely affects the Legal Aid Agency and is not connected to Anthony Collins.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the compromised data may include:

• full names and contact information;
• dates of birth and ‘national identification numbers’;
• employment and financial details; and
• Information related to legal aid applications.

Recommended steps for clients

If you have received legal aid since 2010, the LAA and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) recommend the following precautions:

• Stay alert to suspicious emails, phone calls, or messages.
• Update any passwords associated with the LAA’s Online Portal.
• Refrain from sharing personal or financial information unless you are confident in the recipient’s identity.
