We handle many cases where there has been an adverse or unexplained outcome following surgery and acted for the family of one of patients who died following gastric-banding surgery. In the days following surgery the family were concerned that their wife/mother was suffering deteriorating symptoms, and felt that their concerns were not being considered. Within a week of surgery the patient collapsed, having suffered a massive internal haemorrhage.
We investigated the facts of what had happened, and, with the assistance of the independent medical opinion we instructed, were able to establish that the haemorrhage had developed because of the negligent performance of the initial surgery. The problems were further exacerbated by the failure to respond to warning signs in the early days following surgery.
Senior Associate, Sarah Huntbach, represented the family, initially at the Inquest and the subsequent litigation claim. Not only did Sarah secure an award of compensation for the family, she able to obtain the information that had otherwise not been provided to them, helping them to come to terms with the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one following a surgical procedure.
If you would like to discuss any issues raised here in more detail, please contact Sarah Huntbach.
