My role

In October 2016 I was appointed registrar for the Diocese of Chester and Bishop’s legal secretary and in June 2021, I was appointed diocesan registrar for the Diocese of Blackburn. I love the variety of work involved in being a diocesan registrar. My objective is to support the dioceses I work for with whatever issues they face. I act for bishops and the diocesan boards of finance, I also assist parochial church council’s, churchwardens and archdeacons and act on a wide range of charity, ecclesiastical, clergy conduct, safeguarding and property matters.

My experience

I have extensive commercial property experience in property management and development work, having acted for landlords and tenants in the retail and healthcare sectors, property investors and charitable organisations.

My work now focuses on Diocesan Registry matters including acting as registrar for the Consistory Court on the grant of church faculties, advising on churchyard matters, clergy appointments, parish re-organisation, clergy discipline and parish governance. I assist my dioceses with marriage preliminaries, write bulletin articles for circulation to parishes and give training to clergy on the law as it impacts them.

I am passionate about supporting the Church of England at diocesan level and like to meet with those I represent on a regular basis – no two days are ever the same! I am also an executive member of the Ecclesiastical Law Association and was a churchwarden prior to being appointed as registrar.
