Anthony Collins Solicitors (ACS), a social purpose law firm based in the Midlands and North West, has been appointed to the National Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Legal Services framework to provide legal advice and support on benefit administration, governance and to employer bodies. The framework began on 16 January 2023 and will run for four years.
The LGPS is one of the largest pension schemes in the UK with participating employers including local government, charities, housing associations, academies and private sector providers. It has over six million members across England and Wales, 86 separate pension funds and 18,000 employers, with a total value in 2021 of £342 billion. The LGPS is a defined benefit pension scheme basing pension on a proportion of salary and how long payments are made, rather than the value of contributions made after investment performance.
ACS is a social purpose law firm and has extensive experience over the last 50 years of working with local authorities, charities and employers. Its pensions work is led by partner Doug Mullen.
Doug Mullen, pensions lead at Anthony Collins Solicitors, said:
“Being appointed to the National Local Government Pension Scheme framework for Legal Services will allow ACS to provide advice for the next four years to LGPS funds on benefit administration and governance and to participating employers”.
“We work closely with local authorities, housing associations, charities, academies and other bodies participating in the LGPS and this appointment will support our continued work with these clients to deliver on their wider goals of supporting the communities they work within and make a difference to society as a whole”.
“ACS is a purpose-driven law firm with its clear mission of improving lives, communities and society. This appointment and the work it will include aligns with our wider ethos and we look forward to supporting all bodies on this framework, ensuring that they can achieve the best outcomes for their communities”.
Rachel Howe, head of governance, risk and assurance at West Midlands Pension Fund said:
“We are really pleased to launch the latest Legal Services Framework under the National LGPS Frameworks, replacing the previous Legal Framework which provided key support to LGPS Funds, Employers and Investment Pools over the last four years”.
“The partnerships created with all parties, including colleagues across the LGPS and the National LGPS Frameworks, suppliers and framework users have been integral to the successful navigation of the ever-increasingly complex legal environment in which we operate and have supported our ability to maintain high standard service delivery to our members and employers”.
