Locating an estate for a vulnerable client
A life-changing sum
We successfully located a life-changing £370,000 from the estate of a lady who unfortunately passed away whilst caring for her elderly mother.
Wendy* lacked the capacity to manage her affairs and was living with daughter Sarah*, when Sarah unexpectedly passed away in 2017. Following Sarah’s death, Wendy had no living family left to support her and help in the management of her late daughter’s estate. The police concluded that Sarah’s estate was worth £18,000, after which Sandwell Council instructed ACS to act on Wendy’s behalf.
Alongside collecting Sarah’s items, including jewellery, bank statements and bank cards, we requested the last seven years worth of bank statements. Here, our caseworker noticed large sums of money going in and out of Sarah’s account. After further investigation, and with the bank’s help, we discovered that Sarah’s estate totalled £370,000, not £18,000, and we collected this all in on Wendy's behalf.
This money will change Wendy’s life. As a result, she can now finance the care she needs for the rest of her life.
One of the ACS caseworkers is now Wendy’s appointed deputy, ensuring that the money is both secure and used in Wendy’s best interests; protecting her from those who might take advantage.
