Improving Communities

Providing leisure facilities for local communities

Sports and Leisure Management

Sports and Leisure Management (SLM) is the longest-established leisure contractor in the UK, winning UK Active and Matrix Flame Leisure Operator of the Year and Swim England/Kellogg’s Swimtastic awards on multiple occasions. The company’s mission is to encourage everyone to do at least 30 minutes of exercise, at one of their centres or using their online training system, five times per week. SLM manage over 190 leisure and cultural centres across the UK, partnering with more than 60 local authorities.

With the SLM Community Leisure Charitable Trust, the organisation uses these facilities to provide outreach schemes and community-focused exercise to groups all over England so that communities can benefit from affordable and accessible activity opportunities.

Local authority contracts

Three Rivers District Council in Hertfordshire awarded SLM the contract to run three leisure centres and a golf course. The twenty-year contract, with an option to extend by a further five years, will also see SLM carry out a multi-million-pound development at South Oxhey Leisure Centre.

Bracknell Forest Borough Council awarded SLM the contract to run two leisure centres, including a waterpark, and a golf course. The ten-year contract, also with the option to extend, will see SLM carry out a re-development at Bracknell Leisure Centre.

We supported SLM through the entire process – from the Council’s initial procurement and legal meetings, up to negotiation and completion of the full suite of legal documents. This included overarching contracts with both councils, leases, underleases, licences, sub-contracts, building contract, professional appointments and collateral warranties. The contracts will secure high-quality, affordable public leisure provision in the boroughs for the foreseeable future, improving the health and fitness of communities up and down the country.v
