Legal assistant
Legal assistant in the mental health and Court of Protection health and welfare team
My role
I am a legal assistant in the mental health and Court of Protection health and welfare team. I work with clients who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, on section whilst in hospital. I also work with vulnerable adults who are deprived of their liberty, in a care home or hospital, who wish to challenge the authorisation that keeps them there. Additionally, I assist the family members in Court of Protection proceedings that concern their loved ones.
My experience
I have worked within the mental health/Court of Protection health and welfare team for four years. I first started working as a secretary and gained my experience working alongside solicitors within the sector. I have recently taken on the position of a legal assistant and now have a more hands-on role in assisting our clients through what is a very emotional and difficult time for them.
