Inquests can be a daunting and distressing process for organisations and their employees. The outcome of an inquest can impact any potential regulatory and civil liability as well as the reputation of the organisation involved.

What is it about?

This session will provide an overview of the steps an organisation should take after a serious incident occurs and guidance on the inquest process.

During this full-day seminar, we will cover:

  • the immediate steps an organisation should take following an incident and the notifications that may be required;
  • how an organisation should proceed in carrying out an internal investigation;
  • the purpose and format of an inquest; and
  • how an organisation can best prepare for an inquest

The seminar will culminate in a mock inquest overseen by Sarah Huntbach, Senior Associate at Anthony Collins Solicitors and Assistant Coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, with barristers from No.5 Chambers conducting the advocacy. The mock inquest will provide an invaluable insight into the process of an Inquest and how different factors may affect the conclusion.

Why should you attend?

Attendees will gain an understanding of the steps they may need to take should a fatality occur within their organisation and the points they should consider when undertaking an internal investigation. The seminar will aim to demystify inquests so that attendees understand their purpose and format. This knowledge is essential to ensure their organisations can carry out appropriate investigations, co-operate with the Coroner and regulators appropriately, support their employees if they are called to give evidence and seek legal advice in appropriate circumstances.

Speakers

Please be aware that places for this seminar are limited. Our clients get priority over non-clients, but we will endeavour to increase capacity where we can to allow all those who wish to attend a place. Where we are heavily oversubscribed, we will limit places to one or two people per organisation, in which case you may be asked to liaise with your team. Should we have to do any of the above, we will be in touch with you at least two weeks before the event date.
