In April 2016, the minimum wage will increase to £7.20 an hour – and by 2020 it will reach £9 an hour. This is great news for workers but is expected to cost the charity sector as much as £500 million and social care charities will be especially hard-hit as the prospects of getting more money from social care commissioners look slim.
Other pressures include the living wage, increased costs under auto-enrolment, uncertainty surrounding the integration between the NHS and the health and social care sector providers, central government policy changes and the wider charity context around transparency and the need for good governance.
