Managing local authority investments

  • This event has passed.
Event time
Thursday 14 November 2019
9:30 am - 4:00 pm

In the age of continuing austerity for local government (notwithstanding the Spending Review), a financially and legally sound approach to investments has never been more important.

What’s it about?
This event will focus on the key considerations for local authorities in making investment decisions and managing their investment portfolios. Legal compliance is important, but there is a range of financial, accounting, technical and governance issues that need to be covered to ensure that the authority is robust in its approach.

Our multi-disciplinary speakers will facilitate an open dialogue amongst all attendees to enable the sharing of best practice.

What will be covered?

  • the legal framework – powers, procurement and state aid
  • investment strategies and CIPFA compliance
  • investments and local authority accounting
  • investments in residential and commercial property
  • acting as a lender
  • effective governance and scrutiny of investments.

Who should attend?
This event will be relevant to chief officers (particularly s151 officers) as well as senior finance, legal and commercial officers. Delegates will receive a good overview of the broad picture in terms of local authority investments.
