When there’s plenty of energy and creativity being devoted towards the Government’s commitment to accelerate housing development, building homes (not just houses) can be a forgotten priority. Developer-led projects will not be enough to achieve the scale of building required. Durable communities are needed where all people can live well, safely and securely. All at a time when there are significant planning reforms, devolution deals and local government reorganisation, coming to the fore.
None of this is new – but there is an opportunity to revisit the thinking that has been lost over the last two decades as well as build on the new ideas and initiatives that have come to roost in recent times.
We are inviting you to join a roundtable discussion, bringing together planners, lead council officers, housing association leaders, disruptive innovators and community organisational leaders. We will discuss the obstacles and opportunities around developing and restoring homes where people can afford to live but also thrive.
Following on from the discussion, we will share a note with the common themes and alternative perspectives that can be drawn together to create a broad canvas of the art of the possible. This will be published as a thought piece on how we achieve the new generation of secure, social and affordable homes that the Government has pledged.
