Why do you need specialist legal advice?
Legal claims and disputes cost money. They can also eat up valuable time and resources that could be used much more effectively within the academy. Worse still, if something goes wrong on the legal front, your school could be front-page news for all the wrong reasons.
What is the Edulaw package?
Our Edulaw package is designed to deliver peace of mind to headteachers, governors and staff alike. It covers all of the key areas of concern for schools and includes advice on:
- Admissions and exclusions;
- Child protection requirements;
- Contracts and other commercial issues;
- Data protection;
- Employment law;
- Freedom of information requests;
- Governance and constitutional issues;
- Health and safety;
- Litigation;
- Procurement; and
- Property.
We have a wide range of experience in dealing with academies' legal needs, from safeguarding issues relating to the filming of a school play and helping an academy sue a water provider whose water pipe had burst, right the way through to how to deal with an abandoned shipping container left on academy land.
Are there any exclusions?
The Edulaw package does not cover:
- Job evaluation for the purpose of equal pay/discrimination claims;
- Detailed pensions advice;
- Investigations work; and
- Defending Employment Tribunal claims.
All these services can be obtained through us or through one of our partners at an additional cost.
Will this tie me into a long-term commitment?
The contract lasts for twelve months. You are not tied in and there are no penalties for leaving at any time.
How much does it cost?
We offer a twelve-month subscription to Edulaw, which costs £3,450 for 15 hours (plus VAT and disbursements). We can also offer smaller (minimum ten hours) or larger packages according to need.
What happens if we require further support in addition to the hours under this package?
We will always seek to offer you a bespoke solution to your legal query. You will never be charged anything additional unless you have agreed to the costs. If you do ask us to carry out additional work beyond that covered by the Edulaw package, we will discuss and agree to a separate charge with you.
