Working with Social Enterprises

Anthony Collins Solicitors have been extensively involved in advice to social enterprises and others involved in social economy issues. We have:

  • Advised on the possible externalisation of a social economy business within a major London borough, including governance, procurement and state aid issues;
  • Set up and advised an intermediate labour market project which is part of the succession strategy of a Housing Action Trust;
  • Provided training on legal issues for a number of social enterprises in the West Midlands through the Initiative for Social Entrepreneurs, including sessions on constitutions, contracts and agreements, and intellectual property issues;
  • In response to a commission from the Provide Project of Co-operatives UK, written guidance for local authorities on contracting issues in relation to social enterprises entitled "Proactive Procurement";
  • Chaired a session on social enterprise at the New Approaches to Public Procurement network;
  • Set up a co-operative housing network for a community based RSL;
  • Constituted and worked with a not-for-profit town centre regeneration company, on the ongoing renewal of a market town;
  • Done all the legal work in setting up numerous charities, voluntary sector groups and regeneration partnerships;
  • Advised on grant conditions, employment contracts, and a whole range of legal issues to non profit-distributing organisations.
