What is it about?

This seminar will look at the key characteristics and philosophy of the NEC contracts, the range of contract forms available, and the contract strategies they support. It will indicate briefly where these forms fit into the spectrum of available standard forms. It will identify some of the advantages and pitfalls of the contracts, and will consider the extent of effort required to adopt these contracts if other forms have been used previously.  It will also address the perception that these contracts are expensive to administer.

A number of recent case studies will be discussed.

Who will be there?

This seminar is for Asset Management and Development teams who are specifying and using these contracts, for Procurement Teams, and for in-house legal teams who wish to understand the NEC contract suite and the advantages and disadvantages of using it.

The session will be presented by Ross Hayes, a consultant and project manager at Anthony Collins Solicitors. Ross has been involved with the NEC from its inception, is one of the authoring team for the contracts and trains on the contract forms both for our clients and also nationally for Thomas Telford Ltd, the publishers of the NEC.

He has been particularly involved in the development and use of the Term Service Contract. He has advised on contract procurement and strategy on over a £billion of responsive maintenance and other NEC contracts in the housing, FM and roads sectors.

Why should I attend?

The NEC contracts are recommended by the Cabinet Office UK for procuring construction, and are the contract of choice for much of the public sector. It is important to know when to use these contracts and when to avoid them.
