Anthony Collins Solicitors sponsors prestigious Awards for Community Excellence in Adult Health and Social Care

Release Date: 08 June 2009

Anthony Collins Solicitors sponsored and presented the prestigious Faithworks Award for Community Excellence in Adult Health and Social Care at a ceremony hosted at the House of Commons.

The Awards, which celebrate and recognise the exceptional work achieved by faith-based organisations in communities across the country were introduced by Rt Hon Alun Michael, Labour and Co-operative MP for Cardiff South and Penarth: ‘People from faith backgrounds have always been the bedrock of the voluntary sector. It doesn’t matter which element of those non-governmental organisations we refer to, that chain from faith to values, from values to social action and from social action to politics has been absolutely essential to the health of British Society over many years.

The Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP said in his keynote speech that the Awards recognised the ‘rich profusion of initiatives’ from award winners and that he wanted “faith-based activism increasingly to influence the renewal of our politics because faith isn’t just a great starting point for community activism, it’s a great starting point for politics as well.’

Romaine Thompson, Senior Partner at Anthony Collins Solicitors who presented the Award in the Adult Health & Social Care category to Maidstone Road Baptist Church Parish Nursing said: ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring this Award. It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting providers of health and social care services which has been a vital part of our business for the past twenty years or so alongside making a difference to the lives of vulnerable individuals.’

Maidstone Road Baptist Church Parish Nursing provides holistic social, medical and pastoral care to areas not covered by conventional statutory facilities to people of all ages and backgrounds. Steve Lineham, the Chair of its management team, on receiving the Award commented: ‘This award means an enormous amount to us. We know that Faithworks sets a really high standard and so to be shortlisted was tremendously humbling. But we see it as affirmation of what we are doing in our community. We believe parish nursing working alongside the NHS is an excellent model that deserves to be widely adopted and taken up by other churches and public bodies.’
