Social Enterprise
We undertake a wide variety of work for social enterprises - from advice on the right legal structure through to drafting or advising on procurement issues and contracts, employment advice, property, and dispute resolution.
Our work with social enterprises has included:
-
assisting a Primary Care Trust in setting up a new social enterprise then acting for it in its negotiations over a service contract with the PCT
-
advising on the Right to Request (social enterprises coming out of PCTs)
-
advising clients on the terms of their contract for services with a PCT
-
working with a leading housing association to help establish an innovative social enterprise to support the vulnerably-housed
-
writing "Social Enterprise and the Public Sector: a practical guide to law and policy" for Social Enterprise East Midlands
-
setting up numerous Community Interest Companies, including the first conversion of a property owning charity to a CIC which involved a series of discussions with both the CIC Regulator and with the Charity Commission.
We are also committed to supporting the wider sector. We are active members of BSSEC the Birmingham and Solihull Social Economy Consortium) and have carried out training sessions for social enterprises in conjunction with both BSSEC and SEWM (Social Enterprise West Midlands). We liaise regularly with the Social Enterprise Coalition on policy matters, including recently on social value in procurement.
