Education Law
We have a growing reputation for our comprehensive support to parents, schools and local authorities on a wide range of educational issues.
Support for parents
Our excellent reputation extends to providing legal advice and assistance to parents and pupils in disputes with schools and local authorities. We’ve been involved in a range of issues including:
- admissions
- exclusions
- Special Educational Needs (SEN)
- Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) claims
- school transport
- supporting parents at appeals
- supporting parents at complaint hearings
- supporting parents at SEN & disability tribunals
- advising on judicial review and statutory appeals in the High Court
Support for schools and local authorities
The education sector is changing rapidly with the number of providers of schools becoming more diverse. We are involved in the establishing schools with new and existing providers alongside providing support to existing schools in both the state and independent sector. We work closely with the Independent Academies Association and the National Governors Association. Our work includes:
- establishing academies and free schools
- establishing trust schools
- property, employment and charity law issues
- operational issues which impact on schools and local authorities such as admissions, exclusions, appeals, special educational needs, disability discrimination, and school reorganisation
Given the new proposals around academy and free schools, we have provided initial briefings. The first is about obtaining academy status and the second about free schools.
