Maintenance contract nightmares – and how to avoid them

Event date: 15 September 2010

When is it?

  • 2.00pm – 4.00pm (Registration from 1:30pm)
  • 134 Edmund Street, Birmingham, B3 2ES
  • £95 plus VAT (free for clients)

Who will be there?

  • Ross Hayes, Consultant, and Emma Riley, Solicitor – both in our Construction Team. Ross is an experienced chartered civil engineer and project manager who regularly advises on contact strategy and the procurement and management of maintenance contracts. Emma is part of the litigation team and advises on problems and dispute resolution and litigation arising during these contracts
  • Directors of asset management or property services, contract managers and administrators, procurement officers, housing managers of registered providers, local authorities, Almos, community associations - and any other contracting authorities involved in letting medium and long-term maintenance and service contracts

What is it about?

  • Maintenance and service contracts are key to your business and are regarded by tenants as their top priority
  • When they work well they create satisfying long term relationships, give opportunities for efficiency gains and customer satisfaction and reduce the cost of the procurement process itself
  • When they go wrong, the failures can be very painful and expensive, relationships are strained, and the contracts can be difficult to close down. At worst, regulatory intervention can lead to job losses and potentially the closure of the organisation
  • This seminar looks at some of the common reasons for failures in contracts, and suggests approaches to reduce the risk of failure. It also identifies the way forward if the failures are occurring through the correct contractual positions in advance and active management of the problems when they occur

Why should I attend?

  • You should attend this session if you are responsible for setting up these maintenance or service contracts, involved in any significant way in that process, or are responsible for or administer contracts already in place. Even if current contracts are going well, the seminar will highlight best practice and potential pitfalls to avoid
