But what does an empowered neighbourhood look like?

Event date: 19 May 2010

When is it?

• 2:00pm – 4:30pm (Registration from 1:30pm)
• 134 Edmund Street, Birmingham, B3 2ES
• £95.00 + VAT (free for clients)

Who will be there?
• Stephen Belling, Director of the Nehemiah Foundation and partner at Anthony Collins Solicitors. Stephen leads on the Foundation’s work, which is to equip people and organisations operating at a local level to achieve lasting transformation in their communities and neighbourhoods
• David Alcock, head of the regeneration team at Anthony Collins Solicitors and a national expert in community governance
• Those responsible for leading on tenant empowerment or community engagement in housing associations, ALMOs, local authorities, and regeneration departments

What is it about?
• The new Tenant Services Authority will shortly finalise its new regulatory code. This will include standards on tenant involvement and empowerment, and also on neighbourhood and community, which will require providers of social housing to demonstrate how they empower their residents, and how they work together with other agencies to achieve measurable improvements in the communities they work with
• Whichever political party forms the next government, we know that working closely with local communities is likely to be a key platform of policy
• Other public services are also being challenged to consider how their work can be connected with communities to maximise the effect of public expenditure. The challenges are clear; how they will be met is less so.
• The seminar will introduce a holistic approach to neighbourhood transformation and look at how connection points can add value rather than lengthen the to do list.

Why should I attend?
• The seminar will help you think through how you approach working with a neighbourhood and to develop a strategy for creating meaningful engagement and empowerment
• There will be opportunity to network with other senior managers working with the same issues and to consider how best to develop our approach to meet these new challenges, and what to do next.
